Frederick "Fred" Kitchener ROSESeptember 30, 1915 - March 4, 2010 Obituary:
(W.W.II Veteran R.C.A.S.C. 86 Bridge Co.) At Lakeridge Health Corp. Oshawa on Thursday, March 4, 2010 beloved husband of Kathleen Rose (Nash) for 67 years. Father of Sylvia Hraynyk (Bob), Susan Hraynyk (Nick); grandfather of Jason (Donna), Tom (Julie), David (Pam Bond), Mark (Jacynthe Harvey); beloved great-grandfather of Elodie Maple and Lillie Rose. Survived by brother Albert (Marie) of Toronto, brother-in-law of James Nash (Doris) and predeceased by many brothers and sisters. He was born in Toronto on September 30, 1915 and lived there until, as a young teenager he went to New York to be an apprentice jockey. After his riding career he travelled as a groom with his beloved horses throughout the riding circuit in Ontario and the eastern United States. He worked at the National Stud Farm, Oshawa until he enlisted in the army during W.W.II. He served with the R.C.A.S.C., 86 Bridge Company in Canada, England, Holland, France, Belgium and Germany. After the war he worked for McLaughlin Fuels and Building Supplies and later for Shell Canada. In his retirement he enjoyed trout fishing, fly-tying, travel and his membership in the Sydenham Kiwanis. For the past eight years he has made his home, with his wife, at the Sunrise Seniors Apartments where they have many friends and he has been lovingly looked after by the wonderful caregivers. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Saturday, March 13, 2010 after 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 am. Donations made in memory of Fred to the “Oshawa Hospital Foundation” Colonel R.S.
